Exterior Insulation and Finishing System

Exterior Insulation and Finishing System

External thermal insulation system:

Insulation is the use of materials that have heat and cold insulating properties that help reduce heat leakage and its transfer from outside the building to inside it in summer and winter.

The coefficient of thermal conductivity differs from one system to another and the coefficient of thermal conductivity (U Value) conforming to the specifications of the Saudi Code is less than 0.35.

For information, the thermal conductivity coefficient of the wall without any insulation system is approximately 2.9.

Moreover, when installing the two-wall system, with insulation between them, it decreases to approximately 2.1-1.9, while the EIFS system, the insulation rate ranges between 0.5 - 0.29, which varies according to the thickness of the insulation.

Before choosing the insulation system, we must know the areas from which external heat seeps into the building, which are as follows:

  1. The mortar between the block and the other.
  2. Between the block and the column.
  3. Through bridges and midways.
  4. Through the bishop.
  5. Through the floors.

Therefore, the EIFS external insulation system is considered the best thermal insulation system so far because it insulates walls, columns, bridges and pedestals, and its life span is 30 years, and we, as an implementing institution, guarantee implementation of 10 years.

Here are some of the advantages of the EIFS system:

  1. It is the only system insulates columns, bridges and midribs.
  2. It is the only system that is implemented on new and old buildings.
  3. Reducing electrical energy consumption for cooling and heating. It reduces an average of 30%-40% of the energy consumed.
  4. Reducing the capacity of air conditioners. Moreover, to extend its life, as it will operate at medium and not maximum power.
  5. Protection of building materials from heat changes.
  6. Protect the furniture inside the building.
  7. Environment protection.
  8. Fire resistant.
  9. Lightweight and load on the building.

Why do we always focus on the quality of insulation?

Because after the study conducted by the Saudi Electricity Company, they found that 66% of the electrical energy consumed in the summer goes to cool the building!

Therefore, always make sure to install the best type of insulation because its advantages will last you for years and may be for the life of the building.

What does an external insulation system consist of?

It consists of the following layers:

  1. Glue
  2. Polystyrene sheet, thickness of 8-10 cm and density of 20-22
  3. Fixing screws
  4. Cement layer similar to plaster 3-4 mm
  5. Fiberglass mesh
  6. Another cement layer
  7. Primer
  8. Final face (paint, profile...)

Therefore, when you choose this system, you will not need to plaster the building, but the bearing force of the plaster of this system is stronger than the normal plaster, as the surface bearing force is five Newtons mm 2, while the ordinary plaster its strength is only 2-3 newtons.

After the final coat, you can use any type of home paint. You can also install some types of stone. However, it is not recommended to install the stone because it will reduce the life of the system and it needs special mechanical installation tools that are not normal so that the system bears the weight of the stone and heat does not leak from the mechanical installation holes.
